The need for adults to acquire new knowledge, skills and attitudes is increasingly recognised as essential to economic, social and individual development. The International Commission on Education for the Twenty First Century stated: 'The concept of learning throughout life is the key that gives access to the Twenty First century.' This idea is embedded in Botswana's Vision 2016, which emphasises 'an educated and informed nation'. The Department of Lifelong Learning and Community Development is dedicated to developing the capacity to meet the goal of lifelong education for all in Botswana, Africa and the world.
