ollowing a brief employment in the public service as a District Officer in the Dept. of District Admin. Ms Kebonyengwana, T. O.Mashaka joined the UB Dept. of Sociology in Jan. 2000 as a Staff Development Fellow where she is a Lecturer in Criminology. Her areas of teaching include: Criminological Theories, Research Methods in Criminology, Gender and Justice, Penology, Policing, Electronic Crime, International Policing, Domestic and International Security, and Organised Crime among others.

Her UG degree in Sociology & Public Admin. was completed with the UB in May 1996. In partial fulfilment of the BA Sociology, she completed a study on youth unemployment and crime in Botswana. In September 2001, she obtained her MA Degree in Criminology the University of Middlesex in London, the UK. Her MA thesis was on the effects of prison policies on the prisoners’ experience of their imprisonment. Under the auspices of Southern African Migration Project (SAMP) Ms. Mashaka was part of a team that proposed and completed two nationwide studies on Migration and Poverty as well as Migration and Remittances between 2004 and 2006. She also did a study on the family and youth crime in 2004. Mashaka has been instrumental in the construction and delivery of the BACJS in the UB. Beyond the classroom, she is academic adviser BACJS, mentor & adviser for UB Criminal Justice Society, a student’s based professional organisation, as well as Board Member of the BIRRO, an ex-prisoner NGO.
