Dr Tlamelo Mmatli, started his formal employment as a Police Constable in the then Botswana Police Force. He served in different capacities and positions until he reached the position of Detective Assistant Superintendent. He joined University of Botswana in 1993 as an SDF, and later pursued his Master of Social Work Degree in Canada at the University of Manitoba - School of Social Policy and Social Administration (1993 – 1995). He holds a PhD in Social Work from The University of Queensland – Australia, with special focus on Policy Analysis (2001 – 2005). Dr Mmatli continued his work at UB, reaching the position of Senior Lecturer in 2017. He has authored and co-authored academic articles published in several professional journals and refereed book chapters. He has also presented scholarly papers at conferences locally, regionally, and internationally. Within the Department of Social Work he has actively participated in curriculum development/review activities, and has served in various departmental and University wide committees. He has supervised research students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Furthermore, he has carried out research and consultancy work for various organizations including Government, UN agencies, as well as for NGOs on various issues of national and international importance. He has also served in Technical Advisory Teams in Government and NGOs. He served as a Member of Parliament (Legislator) for Molepolole South Constituency (2014 to 2019).
