The University of Botswana invites applications for the position of Campsite Attendant. The position is based at the Okavango Research Institute (ORI). The Institute is based in Maun in the North West District of Botswana, and specializes in natural resources management, sustainable natural resource use and conservation in the world-famous Okavango Delta and the Kgalagadi (Kalahari) region.
Requirements: Candidates should have (i) preferably a PSLE but numerical skills and the ability to communicate in English may be adequate; (ii) Experience in working in the delta in a wetland or related environment; (iii) Interpersonal and communication skills, Numerical skills. The possession of a valid driver’s licenses and ability to drive a boat would be added advantages.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) Ensure the security of research equipment and installations at campsites; (ii) Monitor the movement of research equipment and associate implements kept at campsites; (iii) Keep a record of users of research equipment and associate implements kept at campsite; (iv) Assist in guiding research students and visiting scholars in moving around the Delta waterways and the surrounding woodland; (v) Assist researchers in the handling of research equipment; (vi) Collet water and firewood for researchers on field trips; (vii) Clear bushes, shrubs and grass from and around camps to prevent fires; (viii) Clean camps, facilities and equipment used in campsite; (ix) Participate in camp improvement activities; (x) Undertake such other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
