The University Council has approved the new University Strategy ‘Creating a Future for the Knowledge Generation,’ on Friday March 6th, 2020 for implementation commencing April 1st 2020. The execution of the Strategy requires the University to remodel and reposition itself to be relevant and responsive to the external context in which it is operating. The scale of the transformation that is required will be systematic and University-wide
The new Strategy seeks to position the University at the apex of the national tertiary education and national innovation system. This requires it to lead by example from an organisational perspective and be duly recognised as a strategically focused high-performance organisation. This requires the establishment of performance driven behaviour from the people and culture perspectives and requires a clear focus on the alignment of the organisational structure, leadership, organisational culture, change orientation and individual roles and their performance.
In order to ensure a structured and managed approach to the transformation of the University into a High Performance Organization the Department of Institutional Planning is being transformed into a the Office of Strategy Management with the following core functions:
As part of the Organizational Strategy Management Team, the Principal Transformation Office will have specific responsibility for managing the institutional transformation and change management program.
Primary duties and Responsibilities: (i) Manage the process to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive University-wide organisational structure and job profiling and remuneration strategy. (ii) Manage the process to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive University-wide leadership development programme. (iii) Manage the process to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive University-wide institutional culture programme. (iv) Manage the process to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive University-wide transformation and change management programme. (v) Manage the process to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive University-wide performance management system (vi) Manage the process of aligning at a macro strategic level the University wide cross functional management process and systems to drive performance.
Required Qualifications: A minimum of a professional Masters degree, such as a Master of Business Administration or a related professional field from an accredited institution.
Professional certification: e.g. Strategy Management, Change Management etc. is essential.
Specialised knowledge and technical skills: (i) Public or Private Sector Transformation (ii) Skill in facilitation, consulting and group dynamics (iii) Proficient in the use of computers and computer software relevant to the position
Work experience: (i) An experienced professional with at least 7 years post-qualification experience In a large organization at a Middle or Senior Management level. (ii) Project Management and/or Consultancy experience in organizational reforms will be essential as well as Knowledge and experience of University systems will be added advantages.
