NURSING SISTER (PSYCHIATRY)

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) consult and provide general outpatient care to clients; (ii) make assessments and provide specialized psychiatric care for patients; (iii) participate in the development and implementation of nursing care programmes at UB; (iv) participate in the development of departmental policies and procedures aligned to the national and University of Botswana mental health policies; (v) assist Nursing  Manager in supervision and implementation of nursing programmes in the clinic and supervise their implementation; (vi) develop educational materials for the UB Community on mental health, associated drug interactions, side effects, etc; (vii) provide counselling to patients; (viii) supervise subordinates and monitors their progress through the performance management system; (ix) prepare reports on services provided (x) and attend to any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) a minimum of Nursing Degree, e.g. Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent; (ii) Diploma in Psychiatry Nurse; (relevant Master’s degree) will be an added advantage; (iii) at least five years’ experience working in a district facility or hospital providing nursing care; (iv) work in a tertiary institution will be an added advantage.

Qualities: Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.  Ability to work effectively with students, staff and family members, and be able to work independently to manage multiple priorities, computer literacy, counselling abilities, and high degree of commitment to work adhering to nursing standards and ethics.
