MANAGER, HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTRE

VACANCY NO: IRC 1040

Duties:  The successful candidate will be expected to (i) supervise and coordinate UB-HPC staff (ii) Manage all testing, training of athletes, monitor and conducts disciplinary actions as warranted, promote teambuilding, adhere to safety standards, ensure staff provide superior customer service (iii) Assist the Director in general administration and management of the department (iv) Plan, develop, implement and oversee HPC activities across the University. (v) Coordinate activities with other departments, divisions, agencies (vi) Assist the Director to draw sports policies for the University HPC (vii) Assists the Director in preparing financial budget proposals for HPC to the University management. (viii) Oversee the daily operations of the HPC and associated facilities (ix) Seek corporate sponsors and endorsements and do fundraising activities for the HPC (x) Liaise with media for the HPC related interviews, marketing and publicity. (xi) Develop business strategies to raise funds through the HPC (xii) Attend and participate in Association of Sport Performance Centres activities regionally and globally (xiii) Assist the Director with sports facilities management.

Key Performance Area: (i) Facility Operations: Responsible for the overall administration and management of HPC facilities (gyms, labs, courts etc) Additional duties include equipment inventory control, risk management assessment, research, staff supervision, and personal development. (ii) Fitness and Wellness: Responsible for the administration and management of the fitness and wellness programs (group fitness classes, personal training, nutrition services and for cardio/free weight rooms) including staff training, program development, risk management, supervision, assessment, and marketing. (iii)Recreation: Responsible for assisting in the overall administration and management of the recreational programs(service counter operations, equipment issue, fitness room operations, equipment issue, fitness room operations, facility operations, satellite facility operations and programming) including staff training, program development, risk management, supervision, assessment, and marketing

Job Requirements: Education: (i) Bachelor degree in Physical Education, Sports Science or equivalent. (ii) Sports administration and management certificates (iii) Coaching courses certificates (iv)First Aid Certificate. Experience: (i) A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in high performance, sport development or sport management  (ii)Experience in a sports, recreation/fitness based environment (iii) A minimum of 5 years in managerial and supervisory position at sports and recreation environment at the tertiary level (iv) Relevant experience and/or tertiary experience in sports related fields such as sport science (v)Trained in gym procedures, fitness and health testing, setting fitness programmes.                                                                                               

Qualities: (i) Good communication skills both written and oral (ii) Good organisational skills and able to work independently (iii) High degree of commitment to work (iv) Thorough knowledge of Sport, recreation, fitness and wellness trends (v) Ability to work with others in a dynamic, changing, and diverse environment (vi) Right knowledge and skills to work professionally in sport environment (vii) Effectively manage sports venues, clubs, financial and information flows in sport, and build appropriate marketing strategies. (viii) Skills in sports, recreation and fitness program planning and development (ix) knowledge of national and international sports policies, regulations and guidelines (x) Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures (xi) Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements (xii) Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organising, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments (xiii) Ability to gather data, compiles information, and prepares reports.
