VACANCY NO: FH/PRT 1/2020: LECTURER IN PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE
The University of Botswana is introducing a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Language and Lusophone Studies. Therefore, the Faculty of Humanities is looking for a lecturer qualified to teach Portuguese Language and Lusophone Cultures and Literatures.
Duties: The successful candidate will: (i) teach European Portuguese as a Foreign Language; (ii) be expected to produce didactic material and examine students in levels A1 to B2 that are offered by LAPE (Language Centre of Certification and Evaluation in Portuguese as a Foreign Language); (iii) undertake individual research or in collaboration with colleagues within or outside the Department; (iv) provide service to the University, the profession and the community and; (v) perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements: Applicants should have: (i) at least a Master’s degree in Portuguese Studies or Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language or an equivalent programme; and (ii) a Bachelor’s degree Level in which Portuguese Studies was a major with at least 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) show evidence of engagement in research and service; (iv) Candidates should have Portuguese native speaker fluency or have C1 level (according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in European Portuguese; (v) Candidates should have a working knowledge of English; (vi) The successful candidate must be able to teach European Portuguese Language and Lusophone Cultures. The following will be added advantages: (a) Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language; (b) a PhD in a relevant field; (c) teaching experience at a University or comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership.
