INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (1 POSITION)

Main Purpose of the Job: To plan, manage, advise, coordinate and facilitate development of interactive eLearning/blended materials by consultancy on course design and delivery, training, evaluation and intervention, research and advocacy. Provide consultation in pedagogy, instructional design, and online course development and delivery to University academic staff; Provide guidance in the development of processes and procedures for involving course creation and evaluation of the instructional effectiveness of course material

Duties:(i)Provides consultation in pedagogy, instructional design, and course development,  to academic staff. (ii) Consults with academic staff to guide them to effectively use eLearning platforms/technology. (iii)Provide guidance in the development of processes and procedures for involving course creation and evaluation of the instructional effectiveness of course materials that are produced by the academic staff. (iv)Collaborate with academic staff and eLearning team members to design and write storyboards, design documents, and develop eLearning courses as required. (v) Collaborate with eLearning team members to develop appropriate graphics, animations, artwork and photos to make instructional material optimally engaging; and select and/or develop appropriate instructional strategies using appropriate technologies. (vi)Train academic staff in the application of instructional design and the use of appropriate instructional technology tools in the delivery of instruction and other related pedagogical issues. (vii)Provide post-training consultations and support on course design and development. (viii) Responsible for planning and conducting regular needs assessments and satisfaction surveys and data analysis. (ix)Write reports and recommendations to improve overall quality of courses/programs; (x) identify implementation challenges and work with faculty to ensure quality and consistency in terms of instructional design integrity; (xi) Explore and evaluate emerging technologies and techniques for their pedagogical/ and ragogical uses. (xii) Provide input and research best practices to elevate the quality and consistency of our online and blended learning initiatives.

Requirements: (i) A Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Systems Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology or related. (ii) PhD will be an added advantage. (iii)A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in relevant area, three (3) of which should have been experience working with or lecturing in instructional and educational technologies or related area in an institution of higher learning and/or relevant industry/organization. (iv)Experience in technology-supported instructional delivery. (v) Experience in working with eLearning technologies or web based learning would be highly essential. (vi) Experience in professional development training Knowledge of learning theories, instructional design theories, and instructional design models/systems.
