DEPUTY DIRECTOR, TEACHING AND LEARNING DEVELOPMENT (CONTRACT POSITION)

Main Purpose of the Job: The Deputy Director, Teaching and Learning is one of the key members of the Centre for Academic Development, which is primarily concerned with the enhancement of quality and standard of University teaching and learning, strengthening of academic programme development, the improvement of teaching methods and promotion of a research culture for the scholarship of teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities: (i) Plan and implement appropriate academic staff development and training programmes related to andragogy/pedagogy and didactics throughout the University and its affiliated institutions; (ii) Develop appropriate policies, which are related to academic development and to the enhancement of teaching and learning; (iii) Implement appropriate academic development programmes to enhance teaching, learning, research and professional development of academic staff; (iv) Promote academic excellence in teaching and research; (v) Develop and maintain relevant teaching quality assurance services such as the Student Assessment of Courses and Teaching (SECAT) and other mechanisms of evaluation and development of teaching quality; (vi) Promote the University of Botswana as a centre of excellence in teaching and learning in Southern Africa and beyond, and develop appropriate national and international links; (vii) Undertake and coordinate research initiatives aimed at improving the University of Botswana teaching and learning policy and practice.

Requirements: Applicants should have (i) a Doctorate in a relevant academic discipline. (ii) Three (3) years of experience at Senior Lecturer level or above in the areas of academic development or human resource development in a University or equivalent; (iii) Experience in the areas of academic programmes development and evaluation in higher education with evidence of related research and publication; (v) Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in a variety of higher educational contexts; (vi) Evidence of organizational and human resource development skills and higher level computer skills are essential. (vii) Experience in Pedagogy and Didactics in higher education, educational administration and quality assurance in higher education will be an added advantage.
