CHIEF LABORATORY SCIENTIST, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES

DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR TEACHING AND LEARNING - DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES

VACANCY NO: IRC 1108 - CHIEF LABORATORY SCIENTIST

Duties: The successful candidates will be expected to: (i) procure medical laboratory supplies ensuring stock availability; (ii) plan and manage the utilization of laboratory equipment and supplies as per set protocols; (iii) set and monitor the functioning of laboratory infection control protocols; (iv) develop departmental policies and procedures aligned to the national and international medical laboratory policies and legislation including quality control; (v) review and approve laboratory budget estimates for submission to the Director(vi) develop educational materials for the UB community on laboratory tests and monitoring  (vii) Collaborate with strategic partners, local and international agencies/bodies on technical cooperation. (viii) Supervise subordinates and monitors their progress through the performance management system (ix) prepare reports on services provided (x) laboratory data/information management (xi) and attend to any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) BSc Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent (ii) Relevant master’s degree will be an added advantage. (iii) At least four (4) years’ experience working in a Medical Laboratory or working in a District and or National Referral Hospital, two (2) of the four (4) years should be at Managerial level; (iv) Working in a tertiary institution will be an added advantage

Qualities: Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication. Ability to work effectively with students, staff and family members, Ability to work independently to manage multiple priorities, Computer literacy.
